Sketches from Break!

Sooo, after a grueling week of deadlines and no sleep, I finally had the chance to release some steam. Last weekend I went to San Francisco for the first time after about 10 years? I don't even remember.  It is quite a charming city, and although I didn't get as much drawing done as I wanted to, it was a very relaxing well spent trip.

As I am home right now in SD, I also got to visit my home beach Torrey Pines, and sketch a little by myself with the waves as my sound track.  It was quite a wonderfully meditative and calming experience :)
sketch from Alamo square! was kind of going for something looser

Color Keys For Thralled

Here are some color keys I did a while back for chapter two of Thralled ,the interactive experience I am working on that is being released next year on the Ouya in August/ September!! We are currently cramming to finish the level to the most polish we can so I am on adrenaline overdrive/ hyped up on coffee-- you get the picture! Thought I'd post some work up for the game, since I haven't in a while.

For those of you who don't know what the game is about,  Thralled is an interactive thriller about a slave in 1700's Brazil who runs away from the sugarcane plantations in search of her lost baby son. Check out www.thralled.org for more info!  If you want to know more about thralled, you can email thralled.team@gmail.com!

The basic rundown is that Isaura, the main character, finds herself laying on a rocky shore in the beginning of chapter 2.  She then gets up, goes through a little forest, and reaches a plantation on the other side.  She passes by a senzala, where slaves back then were housed, and eventually reaches the big house where the master resides.  In the senzala, a number of things happen as well,  but I will leave it for a surprise because I don't want to present any spoilers!!

Forgive me for some repeats in the color keys and if they aren't in complete order- some of them were  scrambled because I would go back and add keys, and I didn't feel like re- arranging things again.  For these, I was focusing more on color and mood than composition- experimenting with different color combos and what not.  Some of them are pretty out there but mostly have a monochromatic color scheme bc it's night time!

The master is overlooking Isaura holding a flanders mask.

those left two should be for the forest.  The right two are for when she is in the senzala.

Sketchesss

I took Ed Li's Sketching for Environment class this term at CDA, and here is a little compilation of the sketches I did throughout the term- most of them suck but I think I improved little! One thing for sure though, I learned so much in this class, and it was a ton of fun!

A close up of sketches I did for the final, where we had to create an environment based on the words given to me, which were Spanish and Underwater.  Super inspired by Gaudi for this!

Let it Rain, Let it Rain, Let it Rain!

Here are some sketches I was inspired to do over this weekend because of the rain! Not all of them are rainy themed, but just ideas that popped in.

He gave us layout shots, and we have to paint over them portraying a certain time of day and mood.

These are still in its rough stages, but I'm having fun doing them.

Inspired by my nostalgia for being a kid, when we took risks and didn't care about the consequences.
