Some Plant Sketches from the Arboretum

I'm taking Dynamic Sketching with Patrick Ballesteros at Concept Design Academy in Pasadena, and we went to the Arboretum this past weekend to sketch plants! I stayed for literally a whole day- exhausting but very relaxing as well.  I am learning so much from this class, and one of the things I really want to practice is linework, and really communicating the form and infrastructure of the plants efficiently through simple shading and concise lines.  Patrick makes it look so easy, but it's harder than it seems!

The plant on the top right has lines that are way to dark.  I tried to make it look like the leaves are overlapping but it just looks like contour now because I kept messing up and tracing over.  That is a result of bad planning, which I learned is so important before putting down the real deal!

This is some older stuff where we had to put textures on objects and give it form through texture-- in some of them, I forgot about gradient from light to dark and small to large, which is really helpful in giving the illusion of bumps and curves on an object.

Thralled is on the Front Page of LA Times!!

I'm excited to announce that Thralled, the game I've been working on for the past 2 years, has been featured on the front cover of LA times!! This is extremely excited news for us as we are getting more and more press coverage.  Check out the article here!

We also got featured on the newly released interactive magazine for the iPad, called Grab It magazine.  It is a great form of media that allows passionate gamers to discover the best app games out there at your fingers' ease all in a few taps and swooshes.  Very convenient, aesthetically pleasing, and refreshingly dynamic! Check out their website here and give them some love!!

We are still in the middle of redesigning our website, but if you are interested in knowing more about the game, check it out at www.thralled.org :)

Woohooo!! :)

Girl With Sienna Scarf

Inspired by this girl who had this lovely tan-brown circle scarf. I love scarves, especially circle scarves!! I ended up just spontaneously painting this out with no planning whatsoever, and it was fun!! I realized I do have a sienna scarf that I really like, so it's reflective of that too. Anyhoo, another girl for you to enjoy!

Girl with Green Scarf

Here's the original watercolor of the digital sketch I did below.

Girls and Spring

I've lately been really inspired by an amazing artist Tuna Bora, who I met at CTN.  She has beautiful ink paintings of women, girls and fashion, and I love how loose and fresh her work is.  Inspired by some people I saw on campus, I decided to do a couple really loose sketches on winter fashion. I basically colored over some sketches I did in my sketchbook and blocked in colors as quickly as I could without worrying about staying in the lines, and I kind of liked how it turned out.   It's never too early to sport bright colors :)

I really liked this girl's polka dot shirt and bright teal scarf.

LOVE berets, but I can never pull them off :(
